 Lifetime Health Cover

The Government introduced Lifetime Health Cover on the 1st of July 2000. Lifetime Health Cover encourages people to take out Health Insurance early in life, with penalties introduced to those who take it out later on.

To enable you to receive the base premium for Health Insurance, Lifetime Health Cover means you need to take out Hospital coverage prior to the 1st of July following your 31st birthday.

If you are unsuccessful in doing this you will pay an additional 2% loading on top of your premium for each year after this date. The maximum loading that a person can pay is 70%. People born prior to the 1st July 1934 are exempt from Lifetime Health Cover loadings.
